When to renew or replace your green card
USCIS tells 10-year cardholders to file Form I-90 when the card is expired or will expire within the next 6 months. Once USCIS accepts the form, the receipt notice extends your card for 36 months from its printed expiration date, so you keep proof of status for work and travel while the new card is produced.
Form I-90 is also the form for a card that is lost, stolen, damaged, or wrong. It is not the form for a 2-year conditional card; those are renewed with Form I-751 (marriage) or Form I-829 (investor), which we also prepare.
Foreign-language documents in your packet, such as a marriage certificate for a name change, need a certified translation for USCIS. We handle that in the same visit.

Green card renewal questions
When should I renew my green card?
USCIS says to file Form I-90 if your 10-year green card is expired or will expire within the next 6 months. Filing early avoids gaps in proof of status for work and travel.
How much does green card renewal cost?
Two fees. B308 charges a flat $300 to prepare Form I-90. USCIS charges its own filing fee, $465 for paper filing or $415 for online filing, per the USCIS fee schedule dated September 9, 2026. Some replacement reasons, such as a card USCIS issued with an error, have no USCIS fee.
Can I renew my green card online?
Yes. Form I-90 can be filed online through a USCIS account unless you are requesting a fee waiver, which must be filed on paper. We can prepare either version.
What if my green card already expired?
You can still file Form I-90. Once USCIS accepts it, the receipt notice extends the validity of your expired card for 36 months from the expiration date printed on it, and serves as proof of status for work and travel when carried with the card.
I have a 2-year conditional green card. Is this the right form?
No. Conditional residents do not use Form I-90 to renew. A marriage-based conditional card is renewed by filing Form I-751 to remove conditions, and an investor card by Form I-829. We prepare I-751 as well; ask us which one applies.
